Swim at high tide, stroll at low — paradise all day long

Zanzibar is known for its amazing sandy beaches with clear turquoise waters. There is a lot of difference between the tides of the sea. The resorts are located on the coast and when the sea is high, it is ideal for swimming. The view from the Jetty Bar is wonderful and when the sea is low it is ideal for a long beach walk.

Beach and tides

  • The beaches and tides in Zanzibar
The island of Zanzibar is known for its different sea states. The position of the moon influences the position of the ocean. Twice a day the position of the ocean changes, the difference can be as much as three metres. A spectacular natural phenomenon that you must experience for yourself!
  • Swimming in the Indian Ocean during high tide
The ocean is perfect for swimming and snorkelling during the high tide. You can snorkel and jump into the sea from one of our Jetty Bars and explore the underwater world of the Indian Ocean.
  • Walking on the beach during low tide
During the low tide, the beach is ideal for a long beach walk. During your walk you will spot many locals looking for seaweed, an interesting event to see. Discover the surroundings of our resorts during a walk on the beach!

Difference in beach

There are differences in the quality of Zanzibar's beaches, during the months March to January you will see white sandy beaches. In January and February, when the direction of the wind changes, you can find seaweed on the beach. The resort has special equipment to clean the beach quickly, so the seaweed won't bother you for long!

See a below link to Zanzibar's tide times, according to the position of the moon.
